At PLAN, we’ve gained valuable insights from our own experiences as families, and we recognize that planning for the future requires immense courage. We understand that in today’s world, there are countless workshops, trainings, and resources available. However, we firmly believe that information alone is not enough. Families need ongoing guidance and support as they make decisions and build networks for the future.
Two core beliefs guide our work in future planning at PLAN. Firstly, we strongly believe that families who have experienced similar challenges are the best resources for one another. That’s why we organize regular meetings and gatherings throughout the year where families can come together, share their experiences, and discuss matters related to their lives and future planning. These gatherings provide a platform for mutual support and learning. Secondly, we recognize that each family is unique and provide flexibility and adaptability in our support services. We understand that families have distinct priorities and embark on their planning journeys in various ways. We strive to tailor our assistance to meet the specific needs and preferences of each family.
For families who reside outside of the Lower Mainland or may not be ready to commit to Lifetime Membership just yet, we offer the Family Network as an excellent starting point. The Family Network operates on a non-membership basis and is a way for families to come together, engage in conversations, learn from one another, and provide mutual support. Each month, there is an online gathering facilitated by Shelley Nessman, where families can share information and foster connections with other families. As part of the Family Network, families also have the opportunity to participate in an annual future planning consultation and gain access to additional planning and advocacy support.
At PLAN, we are fully dedicated to supporting families throughout their journey of future planning and invite you to join the Family Network. We firmly believe in the power of families helping families, and we acknowledge that each family charts its unique path forward. By facing the future together, we can navigate this process and create a brighter and more secure future for our loved ones.
