PLAN’s Submission to Finance Canada’s RDSP Three-Year Review

By Joel crocker, PLAN

Between October 21 and December 16, 2011, the Government of Canada held a formal Review of the Registered Disability Savings Plan to ensure that the savings plans continue to meet the needs of Canadians with severe disabilities and their families.

The Review provided an opportunity for stakeholders like PLAN to comment on important topics that are crucial to the success of the RDSP. To launch the review, Finance Canada released a consultation paper that discussed and requested input on these issues. It can be found here: Fed Gov 3-Year Review Consultation Paper

PLAN submitted our response to the Federal review after compiling feedback from the over 2,100 families who have attended our RDSP information sessions and have contacted us over the last several years. We gained additional insight from the online dialogue held here on rdsp.com regarding the top ten barriers to the RDSP, and from the two surveys we launched—namely, the 3-Year RDSP Review and Why Not. Through listening to families, PLAN has been asked thoughtful questions and heard innovative solutions for how families envision an improved RDSP.

We invite you to read “Ensuring the Effectiveness of the Registered Disability Savings Plan”—the Three-Year Review report PLAN submitted to the Government. And, as always, we welcome your feedback.
