Recently, I had the privilege of sitting down for a chat with my friend and colleague in disability activism, Jennifer Johannesen. Jennifer is a blogger and the author of “No Ordinary Boy: The Life and Death of Owen Turney”, a riveting memoir of life with her son Owen whose medical challenges sadly, eventually claimed his life. I highly recommend ‘No Ordinary Boy’ for any parent struggling with decision-making around invasive treatments and procedures for their child or loved one.
Jennifer is developing a video series of conversations with parents, medical professionals and others with a vested interest in the lives of children and adults with complex care needs. This is the first of three interview segments with me and here, I am talking about parenting Nicholas through his stormy early years.
My book, “The Four Walls of My Freedom: Lessons I’ve Learned From a Life of Caregiving” (House of Anansi Press) is available now everywhere in Canada and for pre-order from online booksellers in the USA.
