Increase in Holiday Scammers

Hi Friends,

A reminder to stay safe this holiday season. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Center is reporting that holiday scams are on the rise. Specifically, scams that involve e-transfers through banks.

These might be people asking for donations, money for food or goods, talking about emergencies, etc. More and more social media posts might look real but consider only donating to organizations with charity numbers, call friends and family asking for help to confirm it’s them, and only buy gift cards from stores not people.

During this Canada Post strike, to avoid shipping fraud, keep track of your parcels and only respond to emails and texts that have the same tracking information you have. During the hussle and bussle of the holiday season, a reminder to keep your wallet on you, cover your PIN, don’t share passwords, and review your bank statements to notice any fraud activity to report to your bank right away.
