Catching Up with an Old Friend

Have you talked to a friend who lives far away lately? I recently had a great visit with my good friend Scott, who now lives in San Francisco. We had lunch together over Zoom at the Metrotown Library. It felt really good to catch up.

We talked about all kinds of things—politics, gardening, hiking, and travelling. We also shared some fun stories from high school with Meaghen. Scott and I were in English, French, and Chemistry classes together. I used to help him with his Chemistry homework!

Scott and I have been friends since 1975. My parents, Janet and Perry, wanted me to go to the same local schools as everyone else. I was happy to be there, but sometimes I was bullied. Scott and another friend, Tim Moore, stood up for me. That meant a lot.

Later on, Scott worked at the planetarium and at Science World. I always made sure to visit him. I graduated from Langara College in 1990 and from Simon Fraser University in 1997.

Scott is a good friend, and I told him he’s welcome back to Canada anytime!
