Are you curious about how other families start planning? Want to talk it out with fellow community members? The Future Planning Conversation Series is for families who are curious about planning for their loved ones, how other folks are approaching the process, and for those who want to explore planning in conversation with people with shared experience. It takes place on Zoom and is facilitated by Meaghen, PLAN’s Director of Planning and Advocacy.
The series now also includes a ‘working hour’ where families can work directly on documents in a live session with support.
Join us here as Vicky shares what she came away with as a parent participant, and Meaghen shares a little about what came up for families in this past series. Our next series is already underway, but we welcome participants during the process as well as offering it multiple times per year.
Vicky is a parent who recently attended the series—twice! Her experience has been defined by a deep sense of encouragement, drawn both from the professional guidance of Meaghen and the experiences shared by other families.
Vicky shared her thoughts about connecting with other parents:
It was nice, because they’ve been on this journey a little bit longer, and so it’s nice to get their insight.
She appreciated the small, focused group environment, which allowed for rich discussions, meaningful peer support, and the opportunity for all participants to truly be heard.
One highlight for Vicky was hearing from Rebecca about the value of networks. She described the experience as making planning feel real and urgent:
That was really powerful, hearing from her… it just really hammered it home… let’s get going on this stuff … we want to do all of that work.
Meaghen’s supportive presence also helped Vicky feel empowered to move forward. As she explained:
The day I reached out to Meaghan, it was the best thing I could have done… it’s been really positive, really helpful, for sure.
Surrounded by meaningful stories and expert guidance, Vicky now feels better equipped and more optimistic about her family’s future planning journey. She plans to attend as many sessions as needed to absorb the information and grow into the work.
Some thoughts from Meaghen:
Our Fall 2025 Future Planning Conversation series was filled with a wonderful combination of over 50 families from across BC, connected to future planning in a myriad of ways and all sharing their interest for how their planning now can ensure safety and peace of mind for their adult sons and daughters now and far into the future. In our first moments together, significant themes about building networks and questions about Trusts emerged. While our curriculum gave learnings about documentation, capturing of wishes, and leaned into the ambiguity of planning, we were also able to provide some guests to address those initial themes, including our very own Rebecca Pauls on networks and lawyer Max Shilleto on Wills and Trusts. As we build out more curriculum for our Winter 2026 Future Planning Conversation series, let us know what’s top of mind for you in your future planning work hello@plan.ca
