Claire started with PLAN in 2019 as the Community Leader and worked in this role until early 2021. One year later, Claire is delighted to be welcomed back to PLAN working as a Mentor. Claire brings to her role 13 years of lived experience building a good life for her two children with disabilities and 18 years of knowledge in igniting and activating inclusive communities from living in Co-operative Housing. Through these experiences, Claire has learned that nurturing, developing, engaging, and activating networks of support requires deep listening, ongoing and reflective learning, and continuous collaboration.
Claire holds a BA in Communication Design from Emily Carr University + Design and a Diploma of Fine Arts from Langara College. She also holds a Classroom and Community Support Diploma in Disability Studies from Douglas College. After completing the Classroom and Community Support Diploma, Claire was awarded the Vickie Cammack Student Leadership Award from her classmates and instructors, the Lieutenant Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Academic Medal for academic excellence, and the Douglas College Gold Cord Award.
Whether at work or home, Claire finds beauty and joy in everything from spending time with family, friends, and pets to being surrounded by nature, fine arts, handcrafted objects, a cup of tea, loud music, and all things colourful!
